Then, she motioned for her Lucario to step forward. They would be facing off against a Zoroark, which was kind of similar, despite running on type disadvantage. Not that it mattered much here. “Pleasure is all mine, as long as you give it your all, at least.”

Was... was that a dad joke? Momentarily dumbfounded by the other's greeting she frowns, blinks, only to find a grin slowly creeping unto her face.

"Very well, then. I wasn't planning on giving you anything less than my all!"

The Zoroark moves to its designated spot on the field as well, sizing up the Lucario in front of it. Fangs show in an eager grin, and when the signal is given for their match to commence, it decides to open with Foul Play, barreling towards its new opponent with the intent to strike it down.

Her father had never made those kinds of jokes, so she simply could not know. This was just the kind of humour on her mind right then. And she decided to simply play it out, because why not? This tournament was not exactly a huge commitment. Just a few quick battles, only to never meet again.

Honestly, unless she fought someone she knew, she was not going to even remember any names. Though that was probably a bit of an oxymoron. “Well, as long as we are on the same page. Lucario, go for the Close Combat right away.” The metal gear fox nodded to that and rushed right into the oncoming Zoroark, seeking to meet the Foul Play with simple power and see what came out on top.

Zoroark's Foul Play was perfectly intercepted, the powerful strikes of the Lucario's Close Combat destroying both its momentum and its attack. It's stopped in its tracks, a fist connecting to its jaw, and the fox denying to back down; it pushes against it until it feels itself being pushed back.

Claws glow eerily as it draws back its paws, a Night Slash prepared on each side to attack and attack again if so given the chance.

Heh. That was first blood. Well, first damage. She didn’t see any blood fly. Probably why they were using those points instead. Kept things PG, even if people went at it, mostly because fights ended before anything too terrible could happen.

Still though, the opponent was still within range, keeping things to a simple melee. A claw was raised at Lucario and it reacted as it was want to do – by unleashing a strike at Extreme Speed, seeking to once more before it was hit itself.

The sensation of claw hitting body was a blessing to the beast, eagerly throwing a bit more force into the strike to create a proper fighting distance between them once again.

Said distance was created, but not by its own strike; the Extreme Speed packed behind the punch of the Lucario forced its lumbering body back in a display of power and speed, reminding of its fight against Josh Devlin's Zeraora. Not wishing to make the same mistakes again it immediately went on the defensive, casting a Scary Face upon the Lucario, followed by a boost of Agility before it would move in again to strike once more.

Ah, so now it was backing up, despite the system calling this exchange for the Zorua. Which was strange, given typing and the still evident lack of blood, but she had learned to roll with that. It simply was what it was, really.

Plus, they still had a fight on-going. Lucario weathered the scary face, trying to not let it get to him and instead prepared for the inevitable resumation of close-combat hostilities. It did not even try to rush after the other, but instead sought to meet it in Close Combat once more, when it returned.

Bruised and beaten, that's how her Zoroark emerged once they clashed again, a volley of fists of a devastating Close Combat raining down on its battered body. It grows agitated in its inability to escape from the downpour of hits, snarling violently at the Lucario.

And then it forces itself forward into the Lucario's attack, allowing its agitation to fuel a pulsing Night Daze from within, hoping to hit it point-blank.

Well, the fox was beaten, but it wasn’t down yet. Which meant that this was the moment to press the advantage. Megan swiftly activated her Mega Accessory, causing the light of mega evolution to engulf Lucario.

Which rushed out of said light immediately with an Extreme Speed, trying to get the attack in before that Night Daze, seeking to uppercut the Zoroark out of the ring – unless it managed to find some more hidden power within itself.

Lady Victory did not share her ambition it seemed; for Zoroark's luck turned on it just as quickly as it came.

Not only did its opponent mega-evolve into a more powerful form when it was mere inches away from it, blinding the illusionary fox with its light, but its subsequent Extreme Speed-enhanced uppercut flung the fox skyward like a mere ragdoll. Yvaine, wishing to save her partner from a nasty drop back down recalled it mid-air, the situation aparent that it had been KO'd before it would touch the ground again.

There was the click of her tongue, disappointment creeping into her expression for a short moment. She was proud of the fights they'd fought, but the way they were so easily being tossed around by many of their opponents was slowly starting to take its toll.

Perhaps it was time to change their training regime again...

"That was a hell of a comeback alright. Congratulations on your victory, Megan." Yvaine said, extending her hand towards the younger woman.

“Thanks. And don’t be too hard on yourself, they just gave you a terrible match-up,” she replied, raising a hand to wave at the other. Really, a pure dark type was a terrible opponent for a mega-evolved Lucario, no two ways about it. Just like when he had to fight fliers, hoping they got close or having to rely entirely on aura sphere. This whole single-Pokemon gimmick was already rubbing her the wrong way.

At least at the gym, there was a pre-registration and they tailored the encounter to an extent. But this was just kind of random. Either way though, she would take the win and shaking hands with the unfortunate one. Could just as well be her, next round. “Either way, good luck in the battles to come. See you around, possibly,” she thus said farewell to the redhead, her mind already moving on towards the next battle.
